
Dr. Lu Chen
China Programme Coordinator, Catch Welfare Platform
Lu holds a Master’s Degree in Folklore from Fudan University and a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin. Her PhD research focused on Chinese fishermen’s religious traditions and communities. As a cultural anthropologist and China expert, Lu believes it is important to take into account the unique cultural context to find effective and practical ways of improving fish welfare. Lu has been networking with international academics, organisations, and industry to introduce the concept of fish welfare. She also conducted background research to understand the current status of Chinese aquaculture, its challenges, and the perspectives of varied stakeholders.
