Given China’s vast diversity of aquaculture species, production systems, and fishing methods, and the relative absence of welfare considerations in domestic research, it is our priority to advance aquatic animal welfare science in China, to characterise the current problems and challenges, and to identify good practices. We support this by facilitating collaborative research projects between Chinese and international institutions, enhancing aquatic animal welfare science and education, and training the next generation of scientists.
