
Dr. Tore S Kristiansen
Educated as a fisheries biologist from University of Bergen, Norway in 1987. In the first part of his career, at Institute of Marine Research in Bergen, he did research on juvenile production and sea ranching and population dynamics of Atlantic cod and European lobsters. From 2001 he specialized on studies of fish behaviour, cognition, stress physiology and welfare of fish, and became the research director for The Research Group Animal Welfare, at IMR, until he retired in 2023. He has been coordinating a range of national research projects and two large European projects on fish welfare related topics, and advisor on animal related topics for the Norwegian food safety authorities. He has published more than 80 scientific papers and was one of the authors and the main editor of the book “The welfare of fish”.
